Everything gets washed down
Hygiene routines are hard on equipment. Enclosures, glands, sensors and cabling all have to survive high-pressure water, caustic cleaners and temperature swings, several times a day, for years.
That drives specification more than anything else here — appropriate ingress ratings, stainless where required, sloped surfaces that shed water, and no horizontal ledges that hold it. Getting this wrong shows up as intermittent faults that look electrical and are actually moisture.
Changeover is the real constraint
Most food plants make more products than they have lines, so throughput is decided by how quickly you can switch. Recipe-driven control turns a changeover from a manual reconfiguration into a selection, with the parameters, setpoints and checks changing together.
It also removes a class of quality incident: the wrong setting left over from the previous product.
Proving the cold chain
For chilled and frozen product, temperature history is evidence. Continuous monitoring across storage and transfer, with alarms that reach someone who can act before product is at risk, is worth more than a report produced after the fact.
The records also settle disputes with customers and auditors quickly, which is usually where the value shows up first.

Common questions
- Will the equipment survive our cleaning routine?
- It will if it is specified for it. Tell us the chemicals, pressures and frequency and we specify to that — the common failure is equipment rated for dust being installed where it will be hosed down.
- Can recipes be managed without engineering support?
- Yes, and they should be. Recipe parameters belong to production, with a documented range they can move within and a change route for anything outside it.
- How much does cold-chain monitoring cost to run?
- The metering is inexpensive; the value is in alarms reaching someone in time. Budget for who responds at 2 a.m. as much as for the sensors.
